Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste stars of 2018. Out of over 12,634 products to be judged, First Quality Foods has been awarded a 1-star Great Taste award for its Al'Fez Natural Tahini - meaning judges dubbed it ‘simply delicious’. Judging tables commented that the tahini, made from premium Humera sesame seeds, was a ‘lovely light coloured tahini which has a gentle toasty note to it’.

Tahini is a sesame seed paste made from ground, hulled sesame seeds and is popular in North African, Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisines. Judges highlighted that the Al'Fez Natural Tahini was “a light smooth tahini" and that "the consistency was very light and runny, consistent, with a pleasant colour". Tahini can be served as a dip on its own or as a major component in dishes like Houmous, Baba Ganoush and Halva.

Judges also commented saying "we admire the delicate notes in this tahini and feel it delivers a very clean finish"

After winning a Great Taste Award in 2015 for Al'Fez Harissa Paste, First Quality Foods recognised the growing popularity and demand for Middle Eastern and North African ingredients. Tahini makes a delicious alternative to peanut butter due to its great sources of protein and calcium. It is also high in healthy fats and amino acids, is a great source of essential minerals and has been shown to help regulate blood pressure. Because of its smooth, rich flavour, Natural Tahini can also be used to make vegan fudge or added to desserts as a dairy-free way to make them creamier.  Now available in UK multiples like Tesco and Ocado, as well as the wholesale and export market, First Quality Foods is working to ensure that the versatility of ingredients like Al'Fez Natural Tahini are more widely known.

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.
